Here I am studying for my User Experience Exam tomorrow, listening to our guest lecturer talking about Search Engine Optimization.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) by definition is the process of improving visibility of a website in a search engine. These process can be done natural search results. But ofcourse, in the real world, if you have a new site, how can people find it?
Google ranks a website out of its importance Newly built websites start off by having a ranking of "0". As time goes by, when the domain has been registered long enough, its rank gets upgraded. Besides waiting for time to pass, other factors such as having a lot of incoming links, outbound links and a lot of traffic will also increase your chances of having your website published in a higher place in Google's search engine.
To have your website being found, it is important to have keywords embeded into your Metadata. It is also suggested that by repeating these keywords will increase your chances of getting bumped up by Google's search engine. Ofcourse, if you start spamming the same word accross your page, Google will also bump you down. That is why, it is important to keep a density of using keywords (8% frequency usage, and appropriate usage). However, if you only use these keywords in your metadata and fail to use them in your context, Google will also not use them and thus, you will not be upgraded to the top of the search results.
So keep this in mind folks! The next time you build a website, do remember to put keywords in your metadata and USE them in your context. ;)
